Royal Golden Guernsey Goat

ROYAL
GOLDEN
GUERNSEY

The True Royal of the Goat World...

As their name suggests, these goats boast beautiful golden coats, ranging from a pale blonde to a deep bronze. What's even more unique is that their skin is also golden! Beyond their striking appearance, they are renowned for their exceptionally docile and friendly temperaments, making them ideal "household goats" and beloved pets, especially for smallholdings and families.

While they are generally smaller than other dairy breeds, Royal Golden Guernseys are incredibly efficient milk producers. Their milk is known for its rich, creamy quality and high butterfat and protein content, making it excellent for producing delicious cheese and yoghurt. They also have a lower food intake compared to their milk yield, making them an economical choice.

Miriam Milbourne's Wartime Rescue

The beautiful Royal Golden Guernsey goat almost faced extinction during World War II's German occupation of Guernsey! Their very existence today is a profound testament to the incredible bravery and quick thinking of one islander, Miriam Milbourne. As German forces rounded up livestock for slaughter, Miriam heroically hid a small, precious herd of these golden goats not just indoors, but deep within the island's hidden caves. For years, she risked her own safety to care for them in secret, literally saving the breed from being wiped out. Her selfless actions ensured the survival of these unique and gentle animals, securing their future and allowing us to enjoy their rich milk and calm presence today. What an extraordinary act of courage!
